WHAT IS RE-MIND?

RE-MIND: A Mindfulness-Based Capacity-Building Model for Digital Wellbeing and Intergenerational Audience Engagement in Museums is a three-year Creative Europe Cooperation Project that aims to transform museums into inclusive, emotionally supportive, and digitally balanced spaces.

As museums increasingly engage with digital technologies and changing audience expectations, new challenges emerge around digital wellbeing, sensory overload, inclusion, and meaningful participation. RE-MIND responds by integrating mindfulness, calm technology, digital wellbeing, and intergenerational engagement into museum education, audience development, and outreach.

The project's central outcome is the Mindful Museum model – an innovative approach that supports museums in creating calmer, more reflective, and engaging cultural experiences while strengthening connections between different generations. Children, young people, older adults, museum professionals, educators, and other stakeholders are involved in co-creation and participatory activities to ensure that the model responds to real audience and institutional needs.

Capacity-building is a core pillar of RE-MIND. The project develops a structured training programme for museum professionals, supported by practical toolkits, multimedia learning resources, and the RE-MIND Smart Learning Ecosystem. The ecosystem enables experiential and self-paced learning, while a micro-credentialing and institutional endorsement system supports the recognition of new professional competencies and roles related to mindful engagement and intergenerational facilitation.

The Mindful Museum approach will be tested and validated through real-life museum activities, including tailored educational sessions, intergenerational learning circles and workshops, Showroom Events, and public-facing Cultural Circles activities. These activities create opportunities for knowledge exchange, experimentation, and direct engagement with diverse audiences.

RE-MIND brings together 11 organisations from Serbia, Italy, Croatia, Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia, combining expertise from the cultural, museum, educational, digital, research, and civil society sectors. This transnational partnership supports mutual learning and enables the project's approaches and results to be adapted and transferred across different European contexts.

Beyond the project lifetime, RE-MIND focuses on sustainability, scalability, and transferability. Its results will be supported through open-access resources, the continued use of the Smart Learning Ecosystem, institutional embedding of the Mindful Museum approach, and the development of a future Mindful Museums Network.

Through this combination of innovation, capacity-building, co-creation, and long-term cooperation, RE-MIND aims to contribute to a more inclusive, connected, and digitally balanced cultural sector across Europe.
